Question:
Can you please tell me is Plastic Corrugated “environmentally safe”?
Answer:
That is an interesting and important question that has a slightly variable answer.
First, the material can be used in any form and it will not have any adverse effects on the environment that it is placed in.
In fact, we even manufactured panels for a customer that would interlock into almost any configuration as large or small as required for the specific use of creating both simple and complex underwater reef environments. The material is unaffected by fresh or saltwater so it will remain in place for as long as needed.
The Corrugated Plastic Environment-Friendly Guide
Plastic Corrugated is also often used as a building material for landscape projects both large and small. It can be used to help as support and a barrier in retaining wall projects because of the fact it will not harm the environment and will not decompose when buried.
There are not any environmental conditions that would cause any type of leakage, gasses, or contaminants that would be released from the Plastic Corrugated itself that would be damaging to the environment.
Plastic Corrugated is made from one of two types of material. These materials will either be Polypropylene or Polyethylene. Both resins have a few different characteristics but for the purpose of the environment, they will both react similarly.
The concern of any type of plastic in the environment is the fact that plastic itself does not break down “Decompose”. Plastic materials in general exposed to direct UV or for long periods and even with indirect UV light will become brittle and can break or fracture over time. These pieces that may break off will also not decompose. So for proper protection that parts and or pieces should either be removed before this can take place or retained in a specific area where they can be gathered and eventually removed.
So, depending on the application as long as you can contain and recover the Plastic Corrugated material or product that it was made from at the end of its use it is a very friendly material to its surroundings.
In addition, Plastic Corrugated is one of the cleanest processed plastic products manufactured. This makes it an ideal product for recycling as it is considered a premium plastic for recycling into lower-grade plastic products of all kinds.
